Kings Fish House, Laguna Hills

Kings Fish house located near Laguna Hills Mall is a friendly environment and a great place to bring your family for dinner or catch a quick bite in the bar with some friends.  The brick covered building with has fun fish signage, nice comfortable booths, high ceilings, a live lobster tank, a big oyster bar, TVs, music and delicious food.  (My husband did all of the tile work and brick on the building so we have a fondness for the place!)

First of all their sourdough bread is the best in Orange County, it comes in a sliced partial loaf with plenty of butter on the side – don’t hesitate to ask for more because you will definitely want to!
The best appetizer is the grilled artichoke.  It comes with 4 sections to a plate, grilled in olive oil and their house seasoning, nice and hot and easy to eat because of the way it’s prepared.

For the main course, we recommend the Cioppino. It is a fun meal to eat because before you take your first bite, you get a large bib tied around your neck. You will need it because this is a messy dish to eat, but worth every bite.
It is served in a Le Creuset braiser dish, and comes to the table piping hot. The tomato-based broth is filled with mussels, scallops, whitefish, shrimp, and clams and topped with steamed crab legs. On the side is their delicious French bread. It takes awhile to eat this dish and though I am always the last one eating at the table it is worth getting my hands covered in the tomato broth while picking out the crab legs or skewering a mussel. Yum!

Another favorite is the Seafood Cobb salad – the portions are huge so be hungry when you order this one.  A big wooden bowl filled with cold crunchy iceberg lettuce, fresh crab, shrimp, large chunks of Roquefort, tomatoes, crisp bacon all tossed in a delicious blue cheese dressing.

You can make a meal just out of the fantastic side dishes they offer as well.  Sumptuous garlic mashed potatoes, fresh white corn steamed just enough so there is still a bit of a crunch to it, steamed spinach with chunks of garlic, macaroni and cheese which resembles homemade quality…. we could eat just that!

For dessert, Kings offers apple tart, cobbler, icebox cake and our personal favorite the Key Lime Pie.  Kings’ very own bartender makes the Key Lime Pie so the recipe is hers to keep.  The filling is slightly tart yet slightly sweet with a firm graham cracker crust and a dollop of fresh whipped cream – what a treat!

The bar at Kings offers a wide variety of beer, red and white wine and a fully stocked bar. They have recently added Sushi to the bar menu and the choices are fresh, delicious and can compete with the best sushi bars in town.
